France |
France lies on the western edge of the European continent and shares borders with six neighbours: Belgium and Luxembourg to the north, Germany and Switzerland to the east, Italy to the southeast and Spain to the southwest. Thus it forms a bridge linking northern and southern Europe and joining the countries in the central part of the continent to those in the east.

In the north of France is the Paris Basin, which spreads out into fields and plains. The Massif Central, in the center of France, is made up of vast plateaus. The Alps rise in the south-east. The southern region includes the Mediterranean coast, with mountain ranges and plains. The climate in France is for the most part temperate, winters are generally mild except for in the north east which tends to be colder. The north west of the country is prone to high humidity and frequent rain storms. Mid-summer, particularly August can get very hot.
France is a land of great contrast, offering an endless choice of exciting destinations, a rich diversity of landscapes, and exceptional cultural heritage. The French capital, Paris, is one of the world’s great cities and remains the most visited city in the world. Wonder through Paris and experience the elegance and romance of the “City of Lights”, travel to the famous wine regions and taste wine from centuries-old vineyards, discover ancient forests, verdant fields, royal castles and magnificent cathedrals, relax in Mediterranean beach resorts. History, culture, the art of living – France has so much to offer visitors and travellers.
